The Montenegrin government on Monday asked NATO and the EU for help in extinguishing forest fires that have been raging throughout the country in recent days, including around the capital Podgorica. Serbia has already come to the rescue with a helicopter, Croatian news agency Hina reports.
Fires in the vicinity of Podgorica were brought under control or localized this morning, and a large number of hot spots have been extinguished, officials from the Capital City Protection and Rescue Service confirmed. Acting Commander Nikola Bojanović stated that the routes towards Piperi, Doljani and Kakarčka Gora have been stabilized and are under the supervision of teams on the ground.

Bojanović pointed out that they had great help from fellow firefighters from other municipalities, members of the Montenegrin Army, and locals.
