Boelo: Met Office names second storm to hit UK in 24 hours
The second named storm of the year is expected to bring gusts up to 80mph and heavy rain, with warnings across northern regions.
The Met Office has declared Storm Boelo the second named storm of the year, expected to strike large parts of the UK this weekend with strong winds and heavy rain.
Boelo will involve a deep area of low pressure that the Met Office said will be "invigorated" by an active jet stream as it crosses the Atlantic before reaching northern regions.
Yellow wind warnings cover Northern Ireland, Scotland, and parts of northern England from Saturday evening through Sunday, with peak gusts in exposed coastal areas potentially exceeding 70mph.
Storm Austen will bring heavy rain and severe gusts to southwest England and Wales on Friday, with an amber wind warning covering Cornwall, Plymouth, and Devon between 1am and 10am.
Winds of this strength could fell trees and damage buildings, creating significant transport disruption and power cuts, while The Channel Islands face severe gales with gusts up to 80mph.
The North Atlantic is entering a stormy period. While Storm Austen will hit Europe on Thursday evening, another strong low pressure area will begin to form over the ocean. Storm Boelo will hit the British Isles in particular over the weekend. However, the series may not end there, and much of Europe is expected to experience a windy and rainy period.
