Bo Nix Takes Hits in a Fiery Broncos Practice as He Nears Return to Game Action
Nix and Bonitto were separated after the quarterback was knocked down in a full-padded practice that left Calvin Throckmorton bleeding, officials said.
On Tuesday, Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix was involved in a wild training camp brawl that left offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton bleeding from the face after a pocket collapse sparked a physical skirmish.
During the full-padded practice, defensive players collapsed the pocket and knocked Nix to the turf; the quarterback grew angry at the contact and sparked the melee with teammates, making this the second time since camp started that Nix hit the ground.
Edge rusher Nik Bonitto and right tackle Mike McGlinchey were at the center of the scrum, which reporter Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post described as the "most heated I've seen in the Sean Payton era."
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and offensive coordinator Davis Webb condemned the incident, with Joseph emphasizing that players must avoid "crossing the line" and reminding them "Bo's our quarterback, and we don't want anyone near Bo."
The Broncos are preparing to host the Green Bay Packers on Friday for their second preseason game; Nix downplayed the scuffle, saying "It's getting me ready for the games coming up" despite the physical nature of the practice.
