Blue Jays Place Cease on 15-Day Injured List, Activate Outfielder Lukes
Lukes returns after a month on the injured list, while Schneider heads to Triple-A Buffalo after hitting .127 this season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated outfielder Nathan Lukes from the 10-day injured list on Monday for the series opener against the Miami Marlins, optioning infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
Lukes had been out since April 24 with a left hamstring strain suffered while legging out a double against the Cleveland Guardians, sidelining him for a full month before he cleared to return.
During recovery, Lukes played two games with Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs, while Schneider has struggled this season with a.127 average and.507 OPS in a bench role.
With Lukes' activation and Schneider's demotion, four of Toronto's five outfielders are now left-handed bats, leaving Jesus Sanchez, Daulton Varsho, and Yohendrick Pinango as the likely starting outfield against right-handed pitchers.
Toronto entered Monday in third place in the American League East with a 25-28 record, only a game back of a Wild Card spot after winning seven of its last 11 games amid a season marked by significant injuries.
