Greece’s Early Repayment of Public Debt Brings 2 Bln. Euros Savings in 2026

Following the early repayment of 6.94 billion euros of the 52.3 billion euros bilateral loan from the euro area last June, Greece is planning to make 13 billion euros in early debt repayments during 2026, with the aim of bringing its debt below Italy’s by the end of the year. By making use of fiscal surpluses and high liquidity, it also aims to reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio to 137% this year.
