Tony Iommi Awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) at Windsor Castle
The Black Sabbath guitarist is among 67 people receiving honours for services to music and charity, alongside art curator Ekow Eshun.
On Wednesday, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi received an MBE from the Princess Royal at Windsor Castle, joining 67 others honoured for services to music and charity.
Born in Birmingham in 1948, Iommi co-founded Black Sabbath in the 1960s with Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, overcoming a severe industrial accident that cost him fingertips on his right hand.
Beyond music, Iommi raised £53,000 by auctioning a guitar for a haematology centre at Birmingham-based Heartlands Hospital Charity and serves as patron for Vale Wildlife Hospital and Wythall Animal Sanctuary.
Art curator Ekow Eshun, 58, also received an OBE Wednesday for services to the arts, chairing the Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group which oversees artworks in Trafalgar Square, central London.
Iommi previously described the honour as "unbelievable," saying music has been his life and his journey with fans has meant everything, while his solo album From The Dark releases October 23.
Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi was appointed MBE by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle. The musician explained that his late band colleague Ozzy Osbourne (†) would also have been happy about it.
