- On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party stormed to power in West Bengal, winning 206 seats and ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
- The BJP's vote share climbed to around 45 per cent from 38 per cent in 2021, while the TMC's dropped to nearly 40 per cent from 48 per cent, signaling a major political realignment.
- In a high-stakes contest, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by 15,105 votes. The result marks an "action replay" of the Nandigram battle where Adhikari unseated the TMC leader.
- Amid the BJP's victory, Mamata Banerjee alleged the mandate in more than 100 seats was "looted", a claim echoed by opposition allies who suggested the election was "stolen".
- Completing the party's saffron arc across Anga, Banga and Kalinga, this result marks the BJP's breach of its last major eastern bastion, aligning the state government with the Centre for the first time.
