Bitget Wallet joins BCCC to take part in Japan’s self custody debate
The move gives the wallet a formal role in discussions on DeFi, stablecoins and standards as Japan weighs new rules for self-custody services.
- Bitget Wallet has joined the Blockchain Collaborative Consortium , marking its first involvement in formal Japanese industry policy discussions regarding self-custodial platforms.
- New Japanese regulations effective since June emphasize the legal distinction between custodial services and platforms allowing user control of private keys, creating a policy forum via the BCCC.
- The BCCC represents more than 270 companies, while Bitget Wallet serves more than 100 million users and supports integrations with over 130 blockchains across global markets.
- "We want to bring practical experience from global markets into that conversation," Bitget Wallet COO Alvin Kan said, aiming to build frameworks protecting users while accounting for self-custodial operations.
- While the Bitget exchange withdrew from Japan following regulatory warnings, the BCCC membership involves the self-custodial wallet product as the Financial Services Agency establishes a dedicated crypto supervision division.
