Binance Says Withdrawals Begin
Binance said it restored 95% of stolen tokens and will reopen withdrawals in phases after the attack, with bitcoin first and other assets to follow.
On Sunday, Binance began reopening its network in phases, starting with Bitcoin withdrawals after the recent $6.3 billion hack. The exchange plans to restore access to BNB, Solana, and XRP throughout the day.
The FBI attributed the Thursday attack to TraderTraitor, a cyber unit sponsored by the North Korean state. Binance had suspended all user withdrawals following the $6.3 billion heist, described as the world's largest digital theft on record.
Binance has replenished 95% of the stolen assets, with the remaining 5% consisting of less liquid tokens that may require more time to source. The exchange reached this recovery threshold before resuming phased withdrawals on Sunday.
Users should monitor the official Binance network status page for updates, as the exchange warned that congestion, longer processing times, and temporary delays are expected during the phased rollout. Withdrawals may need to be retried if unsuccessful.
Pyongyang has for years denied using state-linked cyber units for financial theft, and the North Korean mission in Geneva and its embassy in China did not respond to requests for comment regarding the FBI's attribution.
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, which was the victim of a large-scale cyber theft, restored the ability for customers to withdraw their stored bitcoins on Sunday. The company also said on its website that it will gradually restore withdrawals for other cryptocurrencies.
