UK Households Could Save £316 by Making 'Change' Before July 1
Uswitch says households can lock in cheaper fixed rates online, with average savings of £316 and bill hikes of about £221 if they do not switch.
Energy comparison website Uswitch is urging households to switch tariffs before July 1, when the government's price cap takes effect, raising bills by 13 per cent.
Bill payers could face a £221 hike if they fail to act within seven days, prompting Uswitch to launch electric digi-vans displaying countdown timers across major cities including London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh.
Research on 4,000 energy decision-makers found 63 per cent were unaware of the upcoming cap, while 23 per cent of those aware feel powerless over their bills and a further 23 per cent are angered.
Among 2,000 surveyed household energy decision-makers, 20 per cent find comparing tariffs daunting, 18 per cent wrongly believe switching yields minimal savings, and 42 per cent are not considering a switch before July 1.
Ben Gallizzi, an energy expert from Uswitch, warned that "getting off a standard tariff and locking in a fixed rate deal should be an urgent priority for households" before rates reset.
