Manchester Council Leader Bev Craig Announced as Labour Candidate in Mayor Race
Craig says she will build on a decade of progress and widen the region’s gains, as voters in all 10 boroughs choose a new mayor.
Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig has officially entered the race to succeed Andy Burnham as Greater Manchester mayor, with residents in all 10 boroughs voting on July 30.
A mayoral by-election was triggered when former mayor Andy Burnham resigned to return to the House of Commons following his victory in the Makerfield by-election.
Drawing on 15 years of local community work, Craig highlights her background as a former council estate resident and her focus on the Bee Network.
Two other contenders have joined the race: Trafford councillor Geraldine Coggins of the Green Party and Marlon West, representing Restore Britain.
Pledging a 'bold vision to build on progress made over the last decade,' Craig aims to ensure regional success reaches 'every person, community and borough.
