On Thursday 22 January, Pierre-Vincent Guéret, president of the Catholic education management organization, stated that "the word Betharram must be sent to the oblivions of history." The institute, which had been welcoming students since 1837, should definitely close after having recognized its responsibility in a scandal of sexual violence and assault.
The president of Catholic Education announced this Thursday, January 22 on RTL the end of the next re-entry of the private institution, information denied by its secretariat, ensuring that there was "no question of closure at this stage".
Since the announcement, Thursday 22 January, of the closure in the summer of 2026 of the building that housed the Catholic institution Notre-Dame de Bétharram, the reactions are increasing.
Rome has yet to give its consent, and more than 200 complaints have been lodged in this case.
