Best US cities for veterans: Data reveals top places for jobs, housing and healthcare
WalletHub ranked the 100 largest U.S. cities on jobs, housing and health, citing veteran homelessness and mortgage pressure as major challenges.
Austin, Texas, secured the top spot as the best U.S. city for veterans, with Madison, Wisconsin, ranking second and Scottsdale, Arizona, placing third, according to a recent WalletHub analysis.
The study evaluated the 100 most populated U.S. cities across 19 measures in four categories: employment, economy, quality of life, and health, including access to Veterans Affairs facilities.
Veterans in Austin report median annual incomes exceeding $66,000, while Madison veterans saw average annual median income growth of about 8%, and Scottsdale ranked seventh for its low unemployment rate.
Despite these rankings, more than 32,000 veterans face homelessness nationwide, and over 26,000 veterans report higher monthly mortgage payments after the Trump administration eliminated a key loan assistance program.
WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said the best cities for veterans offer "large veteran populations for community support, plus many restaurants and entertainment venues that offer veteran discounts.
