'Missing Piece' | First Ky. Cannabis Processor Opens to Complete Industry Supply Chain
Kentucky now has a medical cannabis dispensary in Lexington and the first processor in Dayton, with 17,000 licensed patients able to access flower products and more coming soon.
- On Thursday, Speakeasy Dispensary opened in Lexington as Kentucky's second medical cannabis dispensary, while Bison Infused in Dayton became the state's first licensed processor this week.
- Faced with limited retail options more than a year after legalization, over 17,000 licensed cardholders and 509 practitioners highlight ongoing demand in the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program.
- Currently, the Speakeasy Dispensary sells only flower with four strains, while Bison Infused Kentucky, LLC will convert cannabis into tinctures, edibles, topicals and expects THC gummies in about two weeks.
- Officials say medical cannabis will help patients with qualifying conditions live fuller lives with less pain, while Gov. Andy Beshear and local leaders expect the program to create jobs and boost the local economy.
- State officials currently note that industry leaders say additional processor licenses are needed to keep shelves stocked, despite ongoing licensing efforts, as of Jan. 15, 2026.
