The car overturned after the driver lost control trying to avoid a stray dog, killing IAS officer Bilagi and two relatives, officials said.
- On Tuesday evening, Mahantesh Bilagi, Managing Director of Karnataka State Minerals Corporation Limited , died in a road accident near Gonahalli Cross in Jewargi taluk, Kalaburagi district while travelling from Ramdurg in Belagavi district to attend a family wedding at 5.30 p.m.
- Initial reports say the car rammed a road median near Gonahalli Cross and overturned after a stray dog ran onto the road, causing the vehicle's driver to lose control.
- Bilagi, grievously injured, was rushed to a private hospital in Kalaburagi and died despite emergency treatment, while two relatives, Shankar Bilagi and Eeranna Bilagi, died at the scene.
- Senior officers including Adduru Srinivasulu, Superintendent of Police, and Sharanabasappa Kyatanal, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, visited the hospital soon after receiving information, while DK Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister, expressed condolences on X.
- A 2012-batch IAS officer, Mahantesh Bilagi served as Deputy Commissioner of Davangere, Managing Director of BESCOM, and worked as an English tutor in Dharwad before joining the civil services.
