According to one military source, two police officers and three military personnel were killed during the assault in Tanougou, not far from the border with Burkina Faso and Togo.
In Benin, Operation Mirador, created in 2022 to counter the terrorist threat in the north of the country, has changed its head. The Chief of the General Staff of the Benin Army appointed Colonel André Dokoui Fofo as the new commander of the theatre of operations. The Beninese army suffered heavy losses in its ranks between January and May this year as a result of terrorist attacks in the north of the country.
Jihadists are suspected in the attack. Authorities did not immediately comment, but armed forces are continuing to search the area.
