Benin: an International Symposium to Reconcile Military Action and Respect for Humanitarian Law

This week, Benin's Ministry of Defence and the United States organized an international symposium in Cotonou on the application of and respect for international humanitarian law. About 30 African countries were represented by military unit commanders and their legal advisers, with the aim of providing African officers with legal and operational tools to maintain the balance between military efficiency and respect for humanitarian standards.
