Boy’s Suspicious Death Sparks Violence at Bengalurur School
Police are questioning school staff and awaiting a post-mortem report after the death of a 12-year-old residential student.
- On Wednesday, relatives of a 12-year-old student stormed Sterling English Residential School in Bengaluru after the boy died under suspicious circumstances, allegedly assaulting the physical education teacher and vandalizing property.
- The student, Gurukiran, reportedly collapsed after PE teacher Narayana allegedly assaulted him in the washroom and forced him to run two rounds of the campus, according to classmates.
- Gurukiran's father, Raghavendra, stated the school informed him of the collapse at 6:45 am on Wednesday, but the boy had died before parents reached the hospital.
- Mithun Kumar, DCP of the North East Division, confirmed officials are questioning school staff, while Anjanappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, registered an FIR and police await the post-mortem report.
- All 115 students residing in the hostel were sent home to their families, and Anjanappa plans to conduct a detailed inspection of the school on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
