BLACKPOOL, UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 9 – Alan and Jemma Forsythe fraudulently claimed over £50,000 in benefits by falsely stating they were single parents living separately, uncovered through their social media activity.
- A Blackpool couple, Alan and Jemma Forsythe, aged 37 and 36 respectively, unlawfully obtained more than £50,000 in benefits by pretending to be single parents while living together with their children between 2019 and 2023.
- Their fraud was exposed when officials discovered social media evidence depicting them as a married couple, contradicting their statements that they lived separately.
- The court heard the fraudulent activity lasted 36 months, with both signing declarations containing false information, and Jemma had a prior similar conviction from 2014.
- Recorder Ayesha Siddiqi reminded Jemma that she was aware her actions were unlawful and decided to suspend her 21-month sentence due to the welfare of their children, while Alan received a four-year prison term for assault along with an additional 15-week consecutive sentence for fraud.
