Bill Belichick Again Is Among Five Coaching Candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Belichick and four others moved to the next stage after selectors reduced the field to 13 candidates, with six coaches still under consideration.
On Thursday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame named Bill Belichick among five coaching candidates for the Class of 2027, joining Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Dan Reeves, and Mike Shanahan.
Members of the Hall's coaching subcommittee selected these five finalists from 14 initial nominees, narrowing the field through a rigorous vetting process.
Tom Brady endorsed his former coach, stating, "If he's not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, there's really no coach that should ever be a first-ballot Hall of Famer." Belichick reached this stage last year but was not elected in his first year of eligibility.
Coughlin won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, while Shanahan and Holmgren secured titles in Denver and Green Bay; Reeves led teams to four Super Bowl appearances.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2027 will be announced at "NFL Honors" in Los Angeles in February, with inductees enshrined in Canton next August.
