Belgium Star Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne Not Taking 4th World Cup Appearance for Granted
Kevin De Bruyne said he is cherishing what may be his final World Cup after 16 years with Belgium and a difficult club season.
On Saturday, Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne addressed reporters at the Providence Swedish Performance Center in Renton, Washington, reflecting on his 16-year national team career and acknowledging this World Cup will be his fourth and final tournament.
After completing his first season with Serie A club Napoli, De Bruyne declared himself fit for the tournament despite recovering from a severe thigh muscle lesion sustained in October that sidelined him until March.
Ahead of Monday's Group opener against Egypt, De Bruyne prepares to face longtime rival Mohamed Salah, having competed against him for 10 years while representing Belgium across 119 appearances.
De Bruyne defended team training privacy to avoid providing information to opponents like Iran, while the squad confirmed 22-year-old center back Zeno Debast will remain on the roster despite his leg injury from last month.
Reflecting on his evolution into an elder statesman, De Bruyne stated he now enjoys the experience more than when younger, as Belgium's Golden Generation seeks to recapture momentum from their historic 2018 third-place finish.
