He awarded him the highest honor for his significant contribution to strengthening friendly relations between Belgium and the Czech Republic, particularly by supporting and strengthening historical awareness of the common struggle for freedom, according to the citation for the award.

King Philippe of Belgium has visited the Czech Republic. The last time he visited was 25 years ago by the then King Albert II and his wife Paola in October 2000.
