A total of 22 prisoners have been pardoned by the Belarusian government, 20 of them after alleged extremist acts. Many oppositionists are still in detention.
In the middle of the month, dozens of oppositionists are pardoned in Belarus. However, more than 1000 political prisoners are still in custody. 20 of them are now released by Lukashenko.
The presidential pardon was granted for "humanitarian reasons and in the interest of the families," according to the presidency, which did not release the names of these individuals.

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukašenko signed a decree by which he thanked 22 people, of whom 15 women and seven men, "once with the new year's approach", announced the Belarusian Presidency in a communiqué in March, informs AFP, taken by Agerpres.
