Giant Maze Turns Into Steam Train to Celebrate 200 Years of Modern Railway
CLEARWELL FARM, SOUTH WALES, AUG 7 – Clearwell Farm attracts thousands with a 10-acre steam train-shaped maize maze and a 13,000 square metre sunflower field, plus a Sunset Sunflower bar featuring live music.
- The award-winning Wistow Maze near Kibworth, Leicestershire, opened on July 21, 2025, featuring a steam train design.
- The maze design honors the bicentennial of the world's earliest passenger railway, which began operation on September 27, 1825, connecting Stockton and Darlington.
- Visitors navigate a three-mile labyrinth shaped like a steam locomotive, taking approximately two hours, with 12 quiz boards on transport evolution.
- The maze attracts 20,000 visitors annually, costs £7 per person, is harvested for cattle fodder at season's end, and is redesigned each spring.
- Owner Diana Brooks said the maze offers visitors a chance to celebrate railway history while exercising both mind and body throughout the experience.
