B.C.’s Jenn Gardiner turns down PWHL expansion team offer
Gardiner declined a foundational player offer and will enter Phase 3, where she must sign with one of the league’s 12 teams.
Surrey's Jenn Gardiner declined a foundational player offer from a Professional Women's Hockey League expansion team during Phase 2, as Detroit, Hamilton, Las Vegas, and San Jose each signed five players from existing rosters.
Gardiner, who played for the Vancouver Goldeneyes during the 2025-26 season, previously stated a desire to remain with her hometown team after joining from the Montreal Victoire in her 2024-25 rookie season.
Phase 2 ended on Monday, and Phase 3 opens on Wednesday, requiring players who declined foundational offers to sign with any of the 12 teams for contracts of at least $73,125 USD.
Beyond Gardiner, five other players declined foundational offers during Phase 2: Izzy Daniel, Kali Flanagan, Julia Gosling, Susanna Tapani, and Grace Zumwinkle, all now facing Phase 3 roster decisions.
With Phase 3 running from Wednesday through Friday at 2 p.m., unsigned players like Gardiner must finalize new agreements as the PWHL completes roster construction for its four expansion franchises.
