B.C. connection to Star Trek icon George Takei's latest memoir

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, JUL 17 – Scott and George Takei have collaborated on graphic memoirs including the New York Times bestseller 'They Called Us Enemy' which continues to influence education despite some bans.

  • Last month, 'It Rhymes With Takei,' a graphic memoir sharing Takei’s coming-out story, was released in various formats and retailers.
  • After moving to B.C., Scott, who has roots in South Surrey since 2018, first connected with Takei in 2012 at Archie Comics when Takei guest-starred in a Kevin Keller comic.
  • Available through retailers including Amazon and Indigo, the memoir’s introduction features Takei being interviewed on The View, where George Takei said, `groomed me to be closeted.`
  • He cautioned, `It remains to be seen whether It Rhymes With Takei will find its way into educational settings` and `I could also just as easily see it being banned,` highlighting its uncertain educational impact.
  • Next month, Scott's forthcoming series Sixth-Grade Shape-Shifter is due for release on Aug. 1, 2025, a four-book series about a kid who can turn into anything.
