B.C. ball hockey team completes undefeated run to capture national title
Tanner Wort earned tournament MVP honors as the Giants outscored opponents 35-3 and finished a perfect six-game run.
- On Sept. 20, the West Coast Giants defeated the South Jersey Soul 5-2 to win the National Ball Hockey League Tier 2 championship, capping an undefeated six-game tournament run.
- To bounce back from last year's quarterfinal loss, the Giants made roster tweaks and hired head coach Aidan Kulas. His 'wealth of knowledge in ball hockey is just unreal,' Wort said.
- Tournament MVP Tanner Wort led the attack with 15 goals and three assists in six games. The Giants outscored opponents 35-3 overall, including two 8-0 victories over Bermuda and Pittsburgh's Bridgeville Happy Dads.
- While the roster is built primarily around Greater Victoria talent, players traveled from Kelowna and Kamloops to compete. 'It's a great feeling to be able to put the ball in the net when you need to,' Wort said.
- Early discussions are underway to form higher-level provincial rosters, Wort said, potentially uniting top B.C. talent to compete in Tier 1. 'You can actually bring in all the talent from B.C., get the top guys out there and kind of have three or four super teams,' Wort said.
