Filming Underway on Cush Jumbo's BBC Drama 'Wahala'
Cush Jumbo, Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde and Susan Wokoma lead the cast as the drama follows four friends whose lives change with a new arrival.
On Tuesday, the BBC announced it is adapting Nikki May's novel Wahala into a six-part thriller, marking the return of Nigerian screen icon Genevieve Nnaji after an eight-year hiatus since her 2018 directorial debut, Lionheart.
Written by BAFTA-nominated Theresa Ikoko, the series follows four Nigerian-British women in their thirties navigating life in London, with the title—a Nigerian word meaning 'trouble'—reflecting the story's two shifting timelines.
Alongside Nnaji, the cast features Adelayo Adedayo, Cush Jumbo, Deborah Ayorinde, and Susan Wokoma, whose carefully balanced world is upended when a charismatic, wealthy acquaintance named Isobel enters their orbit.
Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt praised Theresa's scripts as "an absolute joy," while Executive Producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff of Firebird Pictures said the team is "so proud to be announcing our incredible cast."
Nnaji expressed excitement about the production, calling it an "intriguing story," and the six-part thriller will stream on BBC iPlayer and air on BBC One.
