BBC Radio 4 Presenter Edward Stourton Dies Aged 68
The longtime Radio 4 presenter was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 and later said the disease had become incurable and spread.
- On Saturday, July 18, celebrated BBC broadcaster Edward Stourton died at age 68, the network confirmed. The journalist had previously disclosed a prostate cancer diagnosis in his 2023 memoir, Confessions.
- Stourton's career spanned more than 40 years, including a decade as presenter of the flagship Today programme on BBC Radio 4 and anchoring the One O'Clock News. He reported from global conflict zones including Lebanon and Afghanistan.
- Today editor Rebecca Keating called him the "Rolls Royce of broadcasting," while colleagues praised his "warm intelligence and wit." Interim BBC News CEO Jonathan Munro said it was "far too soon to lose Ed."
- Beyond journalism, Stourton authored several books, including Made in America, and fronted Sunday, a religious affairs programme reflecting his Catholic faith. He is survived by his wife, Fiona Stourton, and four children.
- Despite his illness, Stourton continued working until very recently, having disclosed in his memoir a prostate cancer diagnosis made nearly ten years prior. His legacy defines a generation of British broadcasting excellence.
