BBC Host Apologises to Nigel Farage over Henry Nowak Quote
The broadcaster removed the episode and promised an on-air apology after the presenter said Farage used the phrase “white cold rage” instead of “pure cold rage.”
On Wednesday, BBC presenter Matt Chorley apologized to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage for misquoting his remarks during Tuesday's Newsnight broadcast about the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak.
Farage issued a video Tuesday urging the public to respond to Nowak's killing with 'pure, cold rage' while criticizing what he termed 'two-tier policing' in law enforcement.
Nowak, 18, died after being stabbed by 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa in December; violent protests erupted in Southampton on Tuesday night, injuring 11 police officers and a police dog.
Reform UK demanded a full on-air apology and investigation, arguing the misquote wrongly suggested Farage invoked race as a basis for public anger rather than criticizing discriminatory conduct.
Following the controversy, the BBC confirmed it deleted the entire Newsnight episode from its platforms, addressing Chorley's admission that he had 'misremembered' the exact quote.
