Demon Slays Aussie Slayer to Advance at Wimbledon
De Minaur broke four times and finished the match in two hours 41 minutes as Svajda needed treatment on a left thigh injury.
On Saturday, Australian No. 1 Alex de Minaur defeated American Zach Svajda in four sets at the All England Club, advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old Svajda entered the match following a breakthrough French Open run, where he defeated Alexei Popyrin and Adam Walton before facing Australia's top-ranked player.
Svajda required medical treatment for a troublesome quad during the match on No. 3 court, while De Minaur controlled the play to win 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Advancing to the second week, De Minaur expressed delight after the match, saying "This almost feels like an Aussie court. It's been amazing playing on this court."
On Monday, De Minaur will face either Italy's French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli or Russian Karen Khachanov as he pursues breaking his quarter-final ceiling at the majors.
