When Barr Spangler died in September 1922, he left behind a remarkable record. He was one hundred years old, among the oldest residents of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, believed to be the oldest active merchant in the Commonwealth, and the longest-serving president of the First National Bank of Marietta. He had lived through the presidencies of every American leader from James Monroe to Warren G. Harding.
