Alvarez apologises for Barcelona comments after scoring Atletico winner

On Saturday, Julian Alvarez scored the only goal as Atletico Madrid defeated Deportivo 1-0 at the Metropolitano, sealing the win before addressing his controversial World Cup comments.
Tensions stemmed from Alvarez's World Cup comments where he said he "wanted to fulfil his dream" of joining Barcelona, triggering a summer transfer dispute that soured his relationship with Atletico supporters.
Alvarez told Movistar Plus his comments were a "mistake," while goalkeeper Jan Oblak stated "bit by bit he'll win over the fans again" through continued effort and dedication.
The victory moved second-placed Atletico within 2 points of LaLiga leaders Barca, as Alvarez netted for the second consecutive match to bolster his team's title push.
Real Madrid, third with 21 points, visits Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday for the season's first Clasico, a fixture crucial for the league's top standings.
