Bar manager wins payout after boss said she looked 'very Aryan'

- On Friday, an employment tribunal in Glasgow ordered More Blacks, More Dogs, More Irish Ltd and director Ahmed Magdy Soliman to pay £18,072.72 jointly and severally after ruling unlawful discrimination and unfair dismissal against Sky Sinclair, pub manager at The Old Toll Bar, Glasgow.
- Unsolicited race-related remarks prompted tribunal scrutiny after Ahmed Magdy Soliman, pub director, said, `you look very Aryan with your blue eyes and blonde hair`, and Sky Sinclair was dismissed shortly before two years' service, which appeared predetermined to avoid statutory redundancy rights.
- Ms Sinclair told the tribunal she felt awkward, humiliated and anxious and believed Ahmed Magdy Soliman derived satisfaction from her discomfort when he asked, `Is that for me?`, then said `Oh yeah, forgot you like white people better` and `How was Germany?`.
- The tribunal ordered payments including £14,475.85 for loss of earnings and unfair dismissal, £2,000 plus £322.19 interest for injury to feelings, and £1,274.68 for breaches against More Blacks, More Dogs, More Irish Ltd and Ahmed Magdy Soliman.
