Bald eagle stuck in truck grille in Kittson County rescued by DNR
The Department of Natural Resources safely freed a bald eagle caught in a truck grille along U.S. Highway 59, with the bird unharmed and released back into the wild.
- On Sunday, Oct. 19, Cindy Vagle's church trip turned unexpected when she heard a thump and later found a bald eagle clinging to her pickup's grille on U.S. Highway 59 between Lancaster and Lake Bronson.
- The eagle flew across the road and its feet became caught in the pickup's grille, leaving it clinging to the vehicle while Vagle slowed and avoided disturbing it.
- Describing the bird, Vagle said `Very beautiful, but just hanging there moving its head side to side just looking at me. I was like 'Ohh... I better not get too close to that thing because it had quite the beak`,
- An officer with the Department of Natural Resources arrived about an hour later, removed the eagle, released it, and confirmed it was not hurt.
- The episode highlighted a striking sight as the bald eagle's feet were caught in the grille, while Vagle wondered what was going through its mind.
