Bahrain welcomes USS Nimitz as carrier’s long career winds down

Nearly half a century after its first deployment, the U.S. Navy’s oldest active aircraft carrier made a rare visit to Bahrain that could be among its last.

As part of its last operational deployment before the withdrawal, the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) made a stopover in Manama, Bahrain in recent days, marking the first visit of a U.S. Navy nuclear carrier since the last recorded in 2020. The stopover, framed in the operations of the Attack Group 11 under the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command.
