You know the situation: during the evening rush hour, the train is crowded, but many seats are occupied by bags and suitcases instead of passengers. Dutch Railways (NS) is putting an end to that problem. Starting September 4, it is prohibited to place luggage on a passenger seat, even if the train is not full.
Passenger organizations have agreed to the new NS rule that luggage may no longer be placed on a train seat. NS states that the measure will be included in the house rules and that it will take effect from September 4.
Dutch Railways (NS) is scaling back its compensation during strikes. During previous actions, travelers could claim back up to 25 euros as compensation for replacement transport because trains were not running. As of now, this is no longer possible, the transport company announces.
Train passengers are not required to place their bags on their laps, even if the seat next to them is empty.
