The ruling right-wing populists win the local election in the German neighboring country. But in the Senate election the opposition achieves a partial success. What this means for the political balance.
The right-wing movement ANO remained the strongest party in Czech municipal elections despite significant losses. In Prague and Brno bourgeois and right-wing liberal alliances prevailed. The opposition also secured its majority in the Senate.

The opposition TOP 09 considers the interim results of the Senate and municipal elections a success. The party has a chance to defend its Senate mandates and return to the local councils, from which it has been absent for a long time, said party chairman Matěj Ondřej Havel this evening. According to him, it confirms that the governing coalition of ANO, SPD and Motorists does not control the Czech Republic.
