B&M and Home Bargains among more stores recalling toys over asbestos risk
The Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled Stretcherz toys from major UK retailers due to potential asbestos, a prohibited health hazard even at low levels.
- On February 17, 2026, OPSS issued recall notices for children's Stretcherz toys, now extended to additional UK retailers, due to asbestos risks.
- Retailers including Aldi, Argos, Asda, Smyths Toys, Tesco, TK Maxx/Homesense, The Works, B&M, Home Bargains, The Entertainer, Morrisons and Poundland have listed affected Stretcherz items sold in sales periods August 2023–February 2026 and January 2024–February 2026.
- HTI Toys product codes list specific SKUs being withdrawn, including Med Stretcherz W3 with barcode 5397349658302991163473 and product code 1341030, plus Stretcherz Stretch Squad 4 pack barcode 5050837662945 and product reference 253497.
- The OPSS urged consumers to stop using affected toys and contact retailers for refunds; it stated: 'If the sand is still in its packaging, place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-tape it securely, label it clearly and store it in a secure location out of the reach of children'.
- Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses health risks even at low exposure levels, and a government notice said the product fails the Toys Regulations 2011.
