Avalanche D Cale Makar out for Game 2 vs. Knights
On Friday, Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar announced that star defenseman Cale Makar will miss Game 2 of the Western Conference Final against the Vegas Golden Knights due to an upper-body injury.
Makar, who sustained the upper-body injury in March, also missed Wednesday's series opener. The 27-year-old participated in an optional morning skate Friday before Bednar officially ruled him out.
The Avalanche have struggled with defensive injuries throughout the postseason, forcing other players to log significant ice time. "You can't replace Cale," Sam Malinski said of the need to step up.
Following the 4-2 Game 1 loss, Bednar emphasized that the team needs better execution. "I'm just looking at the guys that are in the lineup," he said of the defensive unit's performance.
Trailing 1-0 in the series, the Colorado Avalanche face the Golden Knights at 6:00 P.M. CST at Ball Arena. Forward Nazem Kadri expressed confidence in the group's capabilities despite the absence.
