CANADA, AUG 5 – July auto sales rose 6.9% to 172,000 vehicles, driven by pre-tariff inventory sales despite tariff costs and trade negotiation uncertainties, DesRosiers Automotive reports.
- On Aug. 5, 2025, DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc. reported 172,000 vehicles sold in July, up 6.9 per cent and the best July since 2019.
- Amid ongoing trade negotiations, DesRosiers says July 2024 was weak and many dealerships sell pre-tariff inventory, as auto manufacturers hope for tariff relief from U.S. President Donald Trump.
- DesRosiers Automotive Consultants shows small pickups posted a 38.7 per cent increase and small vans saw a 38.1 per cent gain in the first half of 2025.
- Year-to-Date sales reached 852,000 units in the first half, up 7 per cent from last year, making it the most resilient first half since 2019.
- Unusual patterns emerged in the first half of 2025, as Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, said the new light vehicle sales market saw a boost for subcompact cars and small vans.
