FBI releases surveillance images of potential subject in Nancy Guthrie investigation
Surveillance images recovered from a disabled doorbell camera provide a key lead in the search for missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, FBI said.
The FBI told reporters Wednesday that it planned to release a surveillance photo of a potential subject in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, who posted the images believing their mother is still alive.
Guthrie was reported missing around noon on Feb. 1 after she did not show up for virtual church services, prompting a multiagency search involving FBI agents near her Tucson home.
The still images depict a masked person attempting to cover or tamper with a doorbell camera recovered from Nancy Guthrie's porch, and investigators hope these details aid identification.
Law enforcement confirmed a detention and questioning after the Pima County Sheriff's Department said deputies 'detained a subject during a traffic stop,' with forensic findings confirming blood on Guthrie's porch was hers.
Federal officials said investigators recovered video from residual data in backend systems with Google's cooperation, while Jamie Siminoff, Ring founder, cautioned, 'Again, I don't want to speculate exactly like what happened or what subscription they had or whatever.
