AUSTRALIA, JUN 23 – Australia must enhance engagement with the US to protect strategic interests amid US-Iran tensions and ensure the success of the AUKUS security pact, experts say.

Australia is broadly aligned with the U.S. view of security in the Indo-Pacific. But Washington has misunderstood much about Australian strategic policy. There will eventually be a crisis in the alliance if policymakers on both sides do not address four expectation gaps—and win social license from the Australian public.
