During the period of decline of ancient Egyptian political power and classical civilization, in the 7th–6th centuries BC, when the primordial cosmic order maintained by the pharaohs – the harmony of divine powers and the human world – collapsed, the country's society was gripped by a kind of "Egyptomania" epidemic. Attempts were made to restore archaic fashions, ancient customs, and elements of lifestyle.
