New Cure Arrives for Chronic, Lifelong Hepatitis B Infection
Study data showed 9 of 9 evaluable NA-treated participants and all 6 treatment-naive responders maintained functional cure at 15 months.
On Thursday, AusperBio Therapeutics, Inc. announced long-term follow-up data from Study AB-10-8004 showing its investigational therapy AHB-137 maintains functional cure for up to 15 months off all treatment in chronic hepatitis B patients.
Chronic hepatitis B affects approximately 240 million people worldwide, yet current nucleoside analogue therapies rarely achieve functional cure, forcing most patients onto lifelong treatment.
Data presented at AASLD The Liver Meeting 2026 in Denver show functional cure was maintained in 16 of 17 NA-treated participants at 12 months and all 6 evaluable treatment-naïve participants through 15 months.
No clinical relapse or new safety signals emerged during follow-up, prompting AusperBio Chief Executive Officer Guofeng Cheng to state: "A functional cure only matters if it lasts after treatment stops."
Currently, the company is evaluating AHB-137 in a Phase 3 trial in China, advancing the experimental therapy with urgency to establish it as a potential backbone for finite-duration treatment.
