Auburn wins 2nd NCAA golf title in 3 years, beating UCLA 4-1 at La Costa
Freshman Jake Albert and Logan Reilly secured the first and third points as Auburn beat UCLA 4-1 for its second title in three years.
On Wednesday, Jackson Koivun and the top-seeded Auburn Tigers defeated seventh-seeded UCLA 4-1 at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., securing their second NCAA golf title in three years.
Auburn previously won the NCAA title in 1988 and 2008, while seventh-seeded UCLA missed a chance for its third championship and first victory in match play.
Freshman Jake Albert put the first point on the board for Auburn, beating Tyler Loree 5 and 3, before Logan Reilly clinched the decisive third point by beating Alex Papayoanou 1 up.
Koivun capped his season winning six of 10 starts and claiming his second Fred Haskins Award, while securing a PGA Tour spot through the PGA Tour University Accelerated program.
The final two matches stopped on the 15th hole when Auburn clinched the title, though Koivun has yet to announce if he is turning professional despite having a PGA Tour spot waiting.
