Russia strikes second major bridge in Kyiv, mayor says
The attack damaged the road surface and trolleybus lines, and city officials said traffic across the bridge was blocked.
On Saturday, a Russian strike hit Kyiv's Northern Bridge, damaging the road surface and trolleybus wires. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the attack on Telegram, stating "Emergency services are heading to the scene."
This incident follows a wave of strikes on the Southern Bridge that began Friday, with city officials describing the ongoing infrastructure attacks as "tearing Kyiv apart" amid severe traffic congestion.
"Traffic across the bridge from the left bank to the right bank is currently blocked," Klitschko said. These strikes represent the first attacks on Kyiv's Dnipro River crossings during the war.
Long lines of stationary cars and buses clogged major roads as commuters sought alternate routes; many were forced to continue journeys on foot due to severe restrictions across Kyiv.
While the conflict has largely focused on ground fighting in eastern Ukraine, these attacks on vital infrastructure demonstrate a broader threat to the capital. Klitschko warned Friday the capital should now be on a war footing.
The videos published on the social media of the attack seem to show a strong explosion on the bridge that connects the right bank of the city to the left bank, while vehicles passed nearby
