AT&T Data Breach Settlement Gets Final Approval: How Much Will Customers Get?
Eligible customers could receive as little as $6.50, while the settlement also includes $59 million in attorneys' fees, court documents show.
On October 2, 2026, U.S. District Judge Sidney Fitzwater granted final approval to AT&T's $177 million settlement resolving class-action lawsuits over two 2024 data breaches that exposed personal information for millions of customers.
The litigation stemmed from two separate incidents in 2024: a March breach where data on about 73 million customers appeared on the "dark web," and a July incident involving call and text records for nearly all cellular customers.
Court documents outline three payment tiers for claimants, with estimated payouts ranging from $6.50 to $40, while settlement funds are divided into $149 million for the first incident and $28 million for the second.
Lawyers negotiated the settlement and received $59 million in attorneys' fees, though claimants seeking tiered cash payments will likely receive amounts far lower than the $5,000 maximum available for documented losses.
Payments will be distributed to eligible claimants after the appeal period expires, according to the settlement website. AT&T stated it settled to "avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation.
