- On Saturday, Japanese football icon Kazuyoshi Miura scored his first competitive goal in nearly four years at age 59. Fukushima United defeated Iwaki Furukawa 7-0 to advance in the Emperor's Cup.
- Affectionately known as "King Kazu," the veteran forward had not scored competitively since November 2022 when playing for Atletico Suzuka. He joined third-tier Fukushima United from Yokohama FC at the start of 2026.
- Miura timed his run perfectly to steer home a teammate's cutback at 59 years and 149 days old. His 52nd-minute strike extended the lead to 5-0, sparking celebrations among teammates on the pitch and bench.
- The veteran was substituted three minutes after his goal. Having previously insisted he will not retire until age 60, the former Japan international is preparing for his 42nd season as a professional.
- Miura was central to the rise of Japanese football following the J-League launch in 1993. With professional leagues switching to an autumn-to-spring calendar, he will continue adding chapters to one of football's most enduring careers.
