At 37, Alexis Sanchez believes he still has plenty to give CF Montréal
Montreal hopes the 37-year-old Chilean star will strengthen a rebuild after 13 wins in 18 months and lift a club stuck 14th in the East.
On Wednesday, 37-year-old Alexis Sanchez is set to make his debut for Montreal at Columbus, just five days after arriving in North America as a Designated Player.
Montreal signed the Chilean star to bolster a roster that registered just 13 wins in 18 months, leaving the team 14th in the Eastern Conference and seven points out of a playoff spot.
Managing director Luca Saputo called the signing a "perfect fit," while interim head coach Philippe Eullaffroy said Sanchez is "completely natural , humble and ready to work."
The club hopes Sanchez's experience will transform the dressing room and lead to brighter days ahead, with interim coach Eullaffroy open to adjusting the team's tactical shape to accommodate his abilities.
Targeting the 2030 World Cup, Sanchez remains committed to his physical fitness while helping Montreal overcome recent on-field struggles, with the Chilean saying "the love of football is what keeps me going.
Alexis Sanchez observed the prowess of some of the big soccer stars when they made the MLS jump, and he said he could do just as much. CF Montréal now needs him to get there if he wants to cut a spot in series.
